MICHAEL SCULLIN Michael Scullin is Counsel to �ǿ��޴�ýapp, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP. In his legal practice he focuses on international matters, including cross-border business and estates.

Michael is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State Dickinson Lw, where he was Associate Editor of the law review. He also holds a Diploma in Advanced International Legal Studies from the McGeorge School of Law in Salzburg, Austria. Prior to joining the firm, he was appointed clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Kunzig of the United States Court of Claims (now the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit).

Michael is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to the following federal courts: Supreme Court of the United States, Third Circuit Court of Appeals, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, United States Court of Federal Claims.

Michael served multiple terms as Co-Chair of the International Law Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association. He is also founder and co-director of the Lyon-Philadelphia Attorney Exchange Program. He has been recognized for Exemplary Service by the Philadelphia Bar and Volunteers for Indigent Persons. He previously acted as a legal advisor in corporate and financial transactions in Geneva. Beyond the practice of law, he has also served as executive director of one of the largest global law firm consortiums, Multilaw, based in London.

The author of numerous articles, Michael has been an Adjunct Professor at Temple University’s Fox School of Business and Management and a guest lecturer on International Labor and Employment Discrimination in Arcadia University’s MBA program. He has also been a featured speaker at various universities and many other venues in Asia, Europe and North and Central America.

Michael served as Honorary Consul of France in Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware, from 2005 to 2022, and as President of the Consular Corps Association of Philadelphia. He has served on the Boards of a number of non-profit organizations, including the French-American Chamber of Commerce, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Global Philadelphia Association, the Philadelphia Association of Zeta Psi, the Alliance Française de Philadelphie, the Reading Terminal Market Merchants’ Catering Company, the FINRA Board of Arbitrators (Securities) and the Global Philadelphia Association, and was a Trustee of the French International School of Philadelphia and the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College. He is an Honorary citizen of Chollabuk-do, Korea, and a Fellow of the Institute of Korean American Studies. He is a dual citizen of the United States and France and is fluent in French.

THOMAS F. McGUANE has been designated a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court Board on Trial Attorney Certification. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Dartmouth College (1971) (Phi Beta Kappa), a Juris Doctor degree from Duke University School of Law (1975), and a Diplome de Langue et Civilisation Francaises from the University of Lyon (1968).

Mr. McGuane's litigation practice includes civil, insurance defense, personal injury, products liability, and legal malpractice. He practices primarily in the state and federal courts of New Jersey. The state court practice includes the active supervision of a volume of insurance defense matters, including discovery, motions and trial. Federal Court matters include defense of civil rights claims, ERISA claims, tort and commercial matters. Current clients in those matters include ConAgra, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and the Hewlett Packard Company. He has served as local counsel for some of those clients in cases involving specialized areas of law.

Recent cases include the successful defense, by way of summary judgment, of a police officer charged with use of excessive force in a shooting of an individual; dismissal of claims of racial discrimination against a superior officer by a patrolman; prosecution of an action in the Central District of California on behalf of a Central American newspaper publisher to recover damages to a printing press shipped from Los Angeles; claims arising out of theft of computer hardware and violation of reseller agreements; defense of alleged theft of trade secrets; and service as local counsel in a number of alleged patent infringement matters. Prior practice in Massachusetts focused on defense of product liability personal injury claims brought against a manufacturer of printing presses and table saws, and burn injury claims against manufacturers and distributors of clothing (results may vary depending on your particular facts and legal circumstances).

Mr. McGuane practiced law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for six years before joining this firm in 1982. He has been admitted to practice in Massachusetts and New Jersey, to the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Massachusetts and New Jersey, and to the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Federal Circuit. Mr. McGuane is a member of the New Jersey State and American Bar Associations, a Master of the William J. Brennan, Jr., Inn of Court, and is fluent in French.
